American Society of Ocular Trauma (ASOT)

The American Society of Ocular Trauma (ASOT) was incorporated on May 4, 2002 at the direction of the United States Eye Injury Registry (USEIR) Board of Directors and following a vote of the USEIR membership.  This organizational change was made to facilitate activities beyond the Registry’s traditional role of data collection.  The expanded activities of the ASOT will include sophisticated data analysis, information dissemination, standardization of terminology, prevention strategies, and promotion of the field of ocular trauma in general. It is hoped that these expanded activities ultimately will lead to improved prevention and care of patients with ocular injuries.

The United States Eye Injury Registry itself will continue unchanged as the ASOT’s primary ongoing activity.  These organizational changes coincided with USEIR’s announcement of instantaneous online reporting via the Internet at useironline.org.
